Electronic Fingerprinting for Background Checks in California. For licenses, certifications, adoptions, employment, visas, own personal review, etc.

 

FNL is a Live Scan Private Service Provider authorized by the California Department of Justice

Live Scan Fingerprints is the standarized method of fingerprinting for background checks in California. The fingerprints are acquired using a fingerprint scanner and then submitted to the California Department of Justice electronically for processing. 

 

 

Reasons to do the Live Scan process:

1 - Mandatory. Live Scan is a required process for certain applications for licenses, credentials, certifications, job applications, etc. in California. The results of the background check go directly to the requesting agency and not to the fingerprinted person (the applicant). If you want to receive your own records, please scroll down for more information.  

FNL commonly received Live Scan fingerprint request from individuals applying for:

  • Professional Licenses / Certifications - Medical License (Physician & Surgeon), Registered Nurse License, CPA -Accountant, Attorney License (State Bar), Pharmacist, Notary Public, Massage Therapist, Finance Lender, Contractors License, DMV Licenses, Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP) License, Credentialed School Employee, Real State License, Dental (DBC) License, Registered Dental AssistantTeacher Credentials, Insurance Agents & Brokers License, and more)
  • Petition for Adoptions
  • Job and Volunteer positions - IHSS Elder Care, Volunteer or employee at Day Care Center, Security Guard, Teaching Volunteer, Taxicab Driver, and more. 
  • Concealed Carry Weapon License

2 - Personal (optional)

  • For personal review of your records
  • By advise of an attorney or legal counsel
  • To challenge an incorrect / inaccurate record
  • For legal purposes
  • As Proof of Good Conduct or Good Behavior when applying for a visa in a foreign country. 
  • To obtain your own background check in advance before applying for a license, certification, credential, or job that has a mandatory fingerprint background screening.

  • Find out if the California Department of Justice has any records associated with your fingerprints, biographical information and/or biometrical information .
  • Challenge any wrong information that your background check shows.
  • Have it as evidence of good behavior or good moral character.
  • Show the results to your attorney or legal advisor.

1 - What are the Live Scan Fees?

There are TWO fees involved:

a) The rolling fees. These are the fees you pay to us for the fingerprint rolling service. Our standard fee is currently $22 per person (as of January 2018). $18 for Volunteer applications.

b) The DOJ fees and/or FBI fees. These are the fees you would pay to the California Department of Justice. Certain applications do not have this type of fees. Please consult the agency requesting you to be fingerprinted or contact us.

2 - Where can I find more information about the California Live Scan Service?

Visit the fingerprints section of the Office of the Attorney General of the State of California website at http://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints

3 - Do I have to bring identification?

Yes, you would need to bring an unexpired photo I.D. The primary photo I.D.s accepted are the California Driver's License, the California Identification card,  and Driver's license from other U.S. state. There are other photo I.D.s accepted but we would recommended you to contact us first to tell you what other forms of identification are accepted.
